Valletta, the capital of Malta, is best accessed by air or sea. As an island nation located in the heart of the Mediterranean, the most convenient way to reach Valletta is via Malta International Airport, followed by a short drive or bus ride to the historic city center. You can also arrive via ferry from nearby European ports or from Malta’s sister islands, Gozo and Comino.

Air Travel:

  1. Malta International Airport (MLA)
    Located just 8 km from Valletta, Malta International Airport is the country’s main international gateway, offering regular direct flights from major cities across Europe.
    Direct connections from cities such as London, Rome, Paris, Frankfurt, Vienna, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Athens, and many others.
  • Public buses (lines X4, 71, 72) link the airport with Valletta in 25–30 minutes.
  • Private taxis and transport services booked via mobile apps are easily accessible at the airport.
  • Shuttle transfers are also available to various hotels and major areas across the island.

Sea travel:

  • Ferry connections are available from Pozzallo (Sicily) and other ports in Southern Italy, though schedules may be seasonal.
  • Gozo Fast Ferry and Virtu Ferries offer regular services between Gozo, Comino, and Valletta, providing an efficient connection.
  • The Valletta–Sliema ferry is a popular commuter and tourist service, taking just 5-10 minutes across Marsamxett Harbour.
